I did glue the wings onto the back.All efforts failed.The newer version has the wings minuscule, which does not make the toy look like fun.My suggestion is to buy this toy for perhaps 5 year olds and above. At least a child who can be careful about the way she plays with the doll. My daughter just would not stop closing the wings, turning the doll to the back, pushing the button, and turning the doll to the front, over and over again. The button to flip open the wings is like a magnet to a young kid. Yes, I read all the reviews about the wings always falling off, but I bought it anyway. Age of child VERY IMPORTANT.My daughter was about 4 when I bought this for her. The wing span is quite large and a child's arms at 4 are too short to make this a viable gift for that age child. The problem was her arms were too short to not to touch and knock off the wings at some point in her play.I did cut off pieces of the back with an exacto knife like one man said.
Looks like they should, but they don't. The wings are too big for the doll and don't stay on. Good to play with without the wings anyway.
I actually just threw them out yesterday because they kept ending up in the bottom of the toy box and were all bent up. I agree with the other reviewers that the wings do not stay on this toy. My daughter was just frustrated with this toy.
She loves it and it is duerable and stands up to alot of usage. She loves it.
The are easily replaced by mom or dad. The wings do come off easily, and are difficult for the little ones to replace. As usual, it was the #1 toy for at least a few hours or days, though after a month it has become just another Barbie in the Barbie box. Well, she wanted (read "needed") the Barbie Mariposa. The reviews are fairly accurate, but a little unforgiving. It is very "girlish", which is what attracted my 4-year-old to it in the first place.
